WOSP Performance, LMS173-11 high output, lightweight gear reduction starter motor. These high performance starter motors have been engineered for use in hostile or bespoke environments and are warranted for 12 months. In most cases they offer twice the power, half the current draw and half the weight of the original unit. Unless specifically intended for just one application all WOSP starters can be rotated 360° on their own axis giving the unit an infinite number of mounting positions to clear any obstructions. Ideal for specialist conversion and motorsport builds.

This starter motor, the LMS173-11, has been engineered to suit Ford V8 engines with either a 157 or 164 toothed ring gear, with the starter motor on top of the motor, These usnits are listed as suitable for the Ford Mustang / GT40 and AC Cobra, but also now suggested for the Ford 289 / 302W / 351W / 351C engines (Cleveland / Windsor models). originally fitted with a 2 bolt, 9 tooth pinion. Will fit both manual and automatic cars.
NB. Ford V8 engines have two different offsets to the flywheel. If an increased pinion depth is required, the 10mm thick spacer between the starter motor mounting flange and the motor itself needs to be removed and the flange refitted with the shorter bolts supplied. Please also note that the original starter has 9 teeth, where as this unit has a pinion with 11 teeth, offset for increased cranking speed and torque. 103.5mm spigot diameter, supplied complete with terminal fitting kit.
This WOSP unit is based on a 1.4kW Denso starter motor which has been modified to suit this particular application, ideal for performance, race and rally car use. Denso type starter motors are the bulkiest option for these engines, they are the most durable.
